Mindful Life Project (MLP) is dedicated to transforming schools by integrating mindfulness and social-emotional learning into the educational experience. The 2023-2024 school year marked MLP’s largest impact in its 12-year history, expanding its programs to reach more students, educators, and communities across California.
2️⃣ Key Achievements in 2023-2024
1. Program Expansion & Reach
Served over 41,500 students and 2,500 educators across 18 cities in California.
Expanded from 51 to 68 staff members to support increased demand.
Delivered programming to 75+ schools, including:
50 schools through full-time MLP Coach model.
26 schools through Mindfulness 360, a hybrid of virtual and in-person mindfulness programs.
Launched MLP’s first expansion outside the Bay Area with 4 schools in Monterey County (Salinas and Marina).
2. Impact & Effectiveness
92% of students reported improved attention in class.
93% of students said MLP helped them make healthier decisions.
95% of students felt more empathy and understanding for others.
88% of teachers observed students sharing emotions more openly.
86% of teachers noted a healthier classroom culture due to MLP programs.
3. Research & Evaluation
Secured a Genentech grant to refine research and evaluation methods.
Collaborated with Learning for Action for a third-party assessment of program impact.
Improved data collection processes to strengthen long-term effectiveness.
4. Financial Overview
Total Expenses: $4.77 million.
43% of costs covered by school district contracts, ensuring sustainability.
Additional funding from Genentech, Kaiser Permanente, Rare Impact Fund, and multiple foundations.

MLP continues to expand its reach and refine its programs, demonstrating the transformative impact of mindfulness in education. With a focus on growth, research, and sustainability, the organization is set to further scale its work, ensuring students and educators receive the mental health support they need.
